Usage
A/an with non-specific things | It’s a computer. |
An (not a) if a word starts with a vowel (usually a, e, i, o, u.) | Give me an apple, please. |
The with specific things which you and other speakers know | Open the door, please. |
This/these to talk about things and people near you | — What is this?
— This is a box of matches. You can take these apples. |
That/those to talk about things and people far from you | Can you give me that pen, please?
Those houses are new. |
